Sports, friendship and refreshment
The river is both good and bad for my education as a foreigner, as well as for the children. Small children learn to swim there and are challenged to compete with the children and young people who are excellent swimmers. Just say: young learned is old done. But yes, I have my swimming certificate, but can't swim as fast and stay underwater for long as my friends.
The bad thing you learn here are the swear words. After six years, I finally know some of them. I never wanted to learn them. But it's a copycat behavior. Say, the more often it's repeated, the more normal it becomes. Until the moment you look up the translation.
Other than that, the river is lovely. The 25/26 or so degree water is great for cooling off your body in. When you get home and have taken a shower, you feel so good. Also because of all the sunshine. It's kind of a rush you get. All you have to do is swim, play and have a good time with your friends. This, of course, strengthens the friendship. Also because you keep going a little further. That's why it's such a great time. And not: oh, if only I had stayed at home with mother.
